The essential method to gain powerful user insights

Usability testing is a key technique to make sure your websites, apps, prototypes etc. are in line with users' needs and goals. Usability testing is also a great way to get to know your users and communicate customer requirements to stakeholders in an engaging way.

During this interactive one-day course you'll master the basics for running usability testing sessions, in the way that we do here at Webcredible day-in-day-out. We cover what we look to find out during usability testing, as well as teaching you all the basic logistics, including:

  • Setting usability testing research objectives
  • Participant recruitment
  • Usability testing interview script writing
  • Usability testing lab setup

The core part of the training is then dedicated to giving you a hands-on chance to practice your interview and reporting skills. You'll run a mini usability testing session, guided by our experienced user experience consultants, getting the chance to master:

  • Your usability testing interview techniques
  • The art of taking useful notes
  • Ways to analyse, extract and report usability issues
  • How to share wider user research insights and findings

Meet Richard Johnston, one of your trainers

Since 2009 Richard's been conducting user experience research, strategy and design for leading brands across the UK and internationally. He's Webcredible's main proponent for lean UX and has spent the past few years as a Senior Experience Consultant embedding lean methodologies into our UX processes.

Most of Richard's days are spent helping our clients understand their customers' requirements and then designing digital experiences based around their needs. In keeping with the lean UX spirit, he can often be found carrying out guerrilla research or locking himself in a war room with a team to rapidly sketch out innovative solutions.

Richard is a really passionate trainer and is well aware that less is more... he's careful to avoid information-overload, focusing on making sure you learn the practical skills to apply UX practices in your day job.

About the day

Duration

Courses start at 10am and finish at 4.30-5pm.

Food

Breakfast, lunch and cakes, all from the amazing PAUL's bakery plus as much fresh coffee, tea, soft drinks and fruit as you like. Oh, and unlimited Prosecco at the end of the day.

Class size

No more than 10 participants - enough so you have other people to learn from but not too many that you're lost in the crowd.

What to bring

As well as your lovely self, you'll need a laptop and charger. Once you've booked, let us know if you don't have a laptop and we can lend you one of ours.
