Web accessibility training

Design for every user

Your websites and digital products should work for all users, regardless of ability, for ethical, legal and business reasons. There are millions of people in the UK with some form of disability, with a combined spending power of £billions.

Our hands-on web accessibility training is fantastic - small class sizes, highly interactive and taught by experts. It will teach you how to make your digital services work as well for disabled users as they do for fully abled users.

You'll finish the day with a great understanding of:

  • How disabled people use computers
You'll learn about the various types of disabilities that affect web and computer use, the challenges that they fact and the types of software and hardware people use
  • What the law says about digital access
Understand how the law on disability affects your organisation, and how to make sure that you provide an inclusive experience for your visitors
  • How to create inclusive digital content
Images, video, tables and interactive content - we'll show you how to make all your digital content more inclusive!
  • How to use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
They're really overwhelming, but once you get confident and comfortable with using WCAG they can become an indispensable tool for you
  • How to check your content
Once we've worked through the basics, we'll show you how to apply what you've learned through some hands-on testing

What you'll need to bring:

  • A laptop and charger, for taking notes and trying things out
  • If you're bringing a Windows machine, then we recommend installing the free-to-use NVDA screen reader
  • If you're bringing a Mac, we'll be using the built in VoiceOver feature
  • For the testing element we'll be demonstrating some plugins for Chrome, so also download Wave extension and Contrast Radio Checker

Is this the right course for you?

This course is particularly suitable if you are:

  • Working as a designer, business analyst, content manager, front-end developer or project manager and you want to learn how to make your website more accessible
  • Looking for a comprehensive overview of the principles of accessibility

Meet Grant Broome, your trainer

Grant has been specialising in web accessibility for over a decade, consulting with a variety of organisations on how to make their online content accessible to people with disabilities.

He's audited hundreds of websites and provided many training courses to various European government teams and companies like Virgin and Legal & General. He has also spoken at events for the British Computer Society, Headstar and at the Bett Show.

His approach makes accessibility as simple and understandable as possible, and his passion for inclusion, draws people in to a subject that can seem complex from the start.
